Meet Dear Oso!
1 year vetted, neutered, vaccinated, 50 lb, Cattle Dog Mix.
Oso first came to our program in June 2020, after his “family” moved and left him behind. He sat in the front yard for weeks, waiting for people who were never coming back for him.
A neighbor who had been feeding Oso reached out to us for help. Upon arrival, this poor guy had a massive ruptured chest wound that was filled with dozens of foxtails. He got vetted, and hung out with us on the farm until he was adopted to a home in the Tahoe area.
Five months later and Oso is back with us through no fault of his own. Reason for return was “leash pulling” and being a “terrible hiking dog.” We have had little issue with getting Oso to heel on leash, but because the last home had problems, we would recommend a dog-savvy home.
Oso has done great with dogs his size and bigger, but his high prey drive means no small dogs or kitties or other small creatures.
Would be best as only dog in the home as he gets jealous of attention / love inside.
Oso does not have good recall — he will roam very far, and may come back, but pretty much on his own accord. He may never be an off-leash dog, but of course can improve with training.
Oso is hand-shy with new people and can be nervous if new people enter his space. For this reason, an adult only home would be best. He does best when visitors ignore him at first.
Active, athletic, happy, curious, loyal, well-behaved. Loves toys/fetch!
Housetrained, no separation anxiety, non-destructive in the home. Settles nicely after long walks/exercise. Obedient and knows his basic commands.
Oso prefers love and affection on his own terms and can be hand-shy / sensitive to unsolicited pets from strangers.
Ideal setting: Adult only home —- Quiet setting with a big backyard & active, dog-experienced owners a MUST — looking for the home to be his final and forever home.
