meet ben!
Ben was rescued from a hoarding case in Modesto, where he lived with 86 other dogs. He is decompressing and is now ready to find a home, preferably with a dog friend or two! Ben is an 18 lb dachshund mix (best guess) and described as sweet, affectionate, and playful, but needs time to adjust to new environments and people due to his past experiences. A home with an enclosed yard would be ideal for Ben, but not necessarily required.
From Ben’s previous foster:
There's nothing Ben loves more than sunbathing. It is when he is the most at peace. Sometimes I think it's because of all the sun he missed out on being trapped in that house from the hoarding situation.
Ben is now potty trained! He went from being so scared of going outside to happily going in and out whenever it's offered. He loves being outside, which is why a yard would be a dream for him!
Ben is such a good eater! Not fussy or picky at all. He will gobble up both dry and wet food. He loves dinner time. He waits patiently while I prepare his dinner and will spin around and bounce as I'm putting it down for him. Because he loves to eat, he is also easy to pill. I can tuck his pills into his wet food, cheese, or pill pocket and he swallows it no problem!
Ben is still wary of people and takes a long time to gain trust and feel safe. Regular exposure at his own pace is key. We hope Ben can find a wonderful person who will be patient with him and let him take as long as he needs to warm up!
